As you know, this time of year deadlines are crushing for us tax geeks. And of course, in the middle of meeting the deadlines, one of my clients comes to me with a transaction which requires more of me than “nose to the grind stone” which is where I wanted to stay for awhile longer just to get the returns out. Tax problems/situations require a certain playful openness and reflection to get to the best answer. There’s a sort mental gear shifting that requires pondering and pauses, dropping the work for awhile and returning to it. This mode finally came to me as I was talking over things with the client and “we” actually came up with a better answer. Fortunately for me, this guy is pretty smart.
Do you have access to the Alan Watts film of the same title? I’d love to see it again. It’s my favorite. This theme reverberates through my live, moment-to-moment.;) on a good day I keep remembering to delight in what I am doing, like vacumning up a cleaning powder on my carpet, back and forth, over and over.
Watching with boyish fascination as it so very slowly lifts up leaving a fresh scent. Playing again, unending, except when I’m in the downward spiral. And playing brings me home.
